The customer called us after they had cut out the edges of their concrete floor in an attempt to solve their basement water problem. This...did not work. This is mostly because even if the water has dirt (vs. concrete) to sink into, you still have wet ground in your basement.

We installed the WaterGuard below floor drainage system and a TripleSafe sump pump and not only does the water drain, the homeowners even have real floors!

Jamie F. called because she wanted to get her sunken & unleveled concrete patio fixed. Our team of experts visited her home and decided to install the PolyLEVEL system that easily repairs sinking concrete. The system uses lightweight polymers that raise concrete slabs back to their original position. A few small, penny sized holes were drilled into the patio slab and then filled with polymers that expand to lift the patio. PolyLEVEL also only has a 15 minute cure time and the polymers are waterproof!

Common Wet Basement Problems

While fixing a wet basement may seem straightforward, it can get complicated. First, you need to identify the sources of leaking and flooding and the cause. Without that, you cannot come up with a reliable solution to address your situation.

Luckily, Ayers Basement Systems has been diagnosing wet basement problems since 1981. That means we can quickly and accurately find the issue in your basement and recommend reliable solutions for your home.

Here are some ways to tell if your basement has issues with water intrusion:

  • Basement wall Cracks: Wall cracks are a clear indication there is water in the basement. But this can be hard to see in finished basements. Leaky cracks may not be visible until they appear on drywall or carpeting. If that is the case, you will need to remove the wall and sometimes the carpeting surrounding it to get a better idea of the issue.
  • Floor & Wall Stains: Stained walls and floors are signs of water intrusion. Water stains are often blotchy and discolored on walls and carpeting in finished basements. In unfinished basements, they appear as semi-uniform, discolored spots on concrete walls and floors.
  • Basement Flooding: Pooling water or basement flooding may indicate a severe wet basement issue.
  • Basement Mold: Basements are the perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew, and other fungi. You can spot mold, mildew, and other fungi through black patches, white or yellow powder, and shapes and colors in corners where walls and floors meet, under surfaces, around window frames, and by leaky areas.
  • Leaky Egress Windows: Old basement windows are a common source of leaks. Rotting framing, cracked window panes, or outdated pieces can lead to moisture intrusion and water damage. Wooden window frames are particularly vulnerable since they easily attract mold and rot. If you notice crumbling wooden frames, peeling paint, soft wood, or discoloration in your egress windows, it may be time for a replacement.

Why Do I Need a Basement Waterproofing Company?

Many homeowners pride themselves on their DIYs - and rightfully so. But some projects are better left to the professionals, including a wet basement. Here are some reasons why hiring a basement waterproofing company will save you money and ensure your entire home is secure:

  • Accurately Identifying Problems: Diagnosing the cause of a wet basement can get complicated. You need to find the source of leaking or flooding and why there is an issue in the first place. If a homeowner does not address all problems accurately, the problems will continue - sometimes without them even knowing.
  • Potential Foundation Damage: The basement is an integral part of the foundation where crucial support beams, floor joists, and plumbing is stored. If a homeowner does not accurately address leaking or flooding, these issues can worsen and cause severe problems for the foundation. It can also impact the home's structural integrity, safety, and value if the homeowner damages the foundation during the project.
  • Long-term Results: Even if a DIY basement waterproofing project looks great, there is no guarantee that the homeowner stopped the problem for good. If the problem persists, it may even cost them more to fix the faulty system in a year or two.

Ayers Basement Systems takes the guesswork out of fixing wet basements. And we have the professional training, skill, and time-tested experience to quickly and effectively address all issues affecting your below-grade space. Ayers Basement Systems has been the trusted foundation repair company of Battle Creek since 1981. That means we can accurately identify areas of concern and recommend permanent foundation repairs based on your situation.

Common Signs of Foundation Problems:

  • Sticking windows and doors
  • Leaning chimney
  • Sinking floors
  • Tilting or bowing walls
  • Sagging floor joists
  • Interior ceiling, floor, and wall cracks
  • Foundation cracks
  • Basement flooding & leaking
Foundation Problems & Solutions

Accurately identifying structural damage is the first step of any permanent foundation repair project. That is why Ayers Basement Systems offers a range of customizable, high-quality structural repair systems throughout Michigan & Indiana, including Battle Creek and nearby.

Foundation Wall problems & Our Solutions:

  • Wall Cracks: Narrow cracks are a sign of regular wear and settlement. But foundations with stair step cracks, horizontal cracks, and leaking cracks with bowing or tilting walls indicate a severe issue that needs addressing. For cracked walls, we recommend helical foundation piers. By driving helical piers deep into load-bearing soils, we can transfer the weight of the home to better support the structure. They prevent future cracks and can be adjusted to provide lasting support.
  • Tilting or Bowing Walls: When soils expand and contract from normal environmental conditions, this causes hydrostatic pressure, which strains foundation walls, causing them to lean or tilt with horizontal and diagonal cracks. After, the walls will start to bulge inward at the top. For tilting or bowing walls, we recommend GeoLock® Wall Anchors. By securing the foundation to stable soils, we can restore walls to their original position. Wall anchors also prevent future bowing and tilting. The PowerBrace™ Wall Repair System is another solution we provide for failing foundation walls, including ones that are tilting, bowing, or buckling.
  • Leaky Wall Cracks: The basement is particularly vulnerable to water-related issues, causing problems for the entire home if left to worsen. Water can seep into the basement through porous concrete and cracks, causing home mold, musty odors, flooding, wood rot, and more. For leaking wall cracks, helical piers can fix damage caused by foundation settlement. We also offer a patented basement waterproofing system to create a secure, dry below-grade space.

Foundation Wall Solutions

Foundation wall problems don't stand a chance with our help. We offer an extensive selection of proven, warrantied foundation wall repair solutions in Battle Creek and throughout Greater Michigan.

  • GeoLock® Wall Anchors repair bowing foundation walls by securing the wall to stable soils beyond the home. The wall anchors not only restore foundation walls to their original position but prevent them from bowing in the future.
  • strong>Helical foundation piers repair damage and close cracks caused by foundation settlement. The helical piers are driven deep into the ground to find stable, load-bearing soils beyond the home to better support the weight of the structure.</li<
  • The PowerBrace™ Wall Repair System stabilizes failing foundation walls, preventing them from bowing, buckling, or tilting inward.

Foundation Floor Problems & Our Solutions

If the foundation is settling in the soil under the home, it can no longer support the weight of the house. Once the dirt compresses, it puts pressure on the foundation, causing it to sink into the ground. Foundation settlement can cause issues throughout the house, including cracked, sinking floors.

Cracked or uneven floors in your home may indicate a foundation floor problem. If that is the case, we recommend helical piers, driving them into stable, load-bearing soil to create a solid base to transfer the home's weight onto. This adjustable system restores the home to its original position, closing cracks, and providing long-term support.

Common Crawl Space Problems

The last thing you want to deal with is a nasty, wet crawl space. And since this area is prone to moisture and humidity issues, this can be a common problem in homes around Battle Creek. But leaving it alone can mean big problems for the rest of the house, causing foundation problems, unhealthy air quality, mold, wood rot, pest infestations, and high energy costs.

That is where Ayers Basement Systems can help. We know that catching common crawl problems can improve the entire home. So here are some common signs that you may have water intrusion issues in the crawl space:

  • High Humidity & Water Intrusion: High humidity and water intrusion allow mold and wood rot to grow and spread, weakening the home's structural integrity, causing pest infestations, and leading to poor indoor air quality.
  • Foul Odors & Mold: Once mold, mildew, and other fungi start to thrive in the crawl space, they can spread to other areas of the house, causing musty odors and unhealthy indoor air, aggravating allergies, asthma, and other upper respiratory issues.
  • Wood Rot & Rust: With many floor joists and structural wood beams in the crawl space, wood rot and rust can weaken these vital foundation supports, causing severe and expensive damage.
  • Poor Energy Efficiency: An unsealed, humid crawl space means hot air will escape into surrounding living areas and create an uncomfortable atmosphere. The HVAC system will work harder to regulate temperatures, causing your energy bills to rise.
  • Pest Problems: A wet, unsealed crawl space makes the home inviting to pests, including termites, rodents, carpenter ants, and more. These insects and animals can cause damage to the foundation, create unhealthy living conditions, and spread to other areas of the house.
The Crawl Space Encapsulation System

If you have a nasty, wet crawl space, your home could be vulnerable to water damage, poor energy efficiency, mold, foundation problems, and more. That is where Ayers Basement Systems can help. We are your trusted crawl space repair company providing a patented encapsulation system, sealing off the below-grade space from outdoor elements, including water and pests!

Create a drier, more secure, and more valuable home with the crawl space encapsulation system from Ayers Basement Systems. We keep the crawl space dry, prevent moisture-related issues, and create a usable area for storage!

How Do We Fix Sagging Floor Joists?

Does your home have bouncy, sinking floors above the crawl space? If so, that is a sign of structural damage. Other symptoms may include drywall cracks, windows and doors jamming, and visibly sagging floor joists in the below-grade space.

Moisture intrusion, high humidity, wood rot, and other foundation problems usually cause crawl space structural damage. But there is no reason to worry. Ayers Basement Systems is your trusted crawl space repair company with a permanent solution to restore stability and strength: the SmartJack® crawl space support system.

Our crawl space jacks provide additional support to the structure. The system is also adjustable - so we can move the floors above to their original position and modify them if needed over the years. Plus, it is compatible with our crawl space encapsulation system, so we can ensure the area is dry, structurally secure, and usable for years to come!

Nancy realized her basement walls had large, deep cracks in them. The cracks allowed moisture seepage, and she didn't know how to fix it, so she called Ayers for help. They recommended installing Shotcrete, which applies a concrete or mortar wet spray through a high-pressure hose to fill a form or repair damaged surfaces. Karen noticed a musty smell wafting through her vents and assumed it must be coming from a dead critter in the crawl space. She searched her home and the crawl space but couldn't find the source of the smell. After researching online, she called Ayers to learn about our waterproofing solutions. We sent a team of specialists to her home, and they recommended the CleanSpace vapor barrier. CleanSpace is designed to encapsulate the crawl space to deter moisture and smell entry. It's also lined with antimicrobial material to prevent mold growth, protecting the wooden support beams beneath the home. Karen is happy to breathe freely again!

Cracked Walls in Battle Creek, MI

Gary noticed step cracks in his brick foundation walls. Using at-home solutions got him nowhere so he contacted Ayers for help. Our resident foreman Blade was able to inspect the walls and realized the reason the cracks were repeating was because the earth around the wall was settling. to counteract this process Blade had a set of PowerBrace piers installed along the wall to correct it.

PowerBrace is a foundation repair system created to secure basement walls in place. Outside pressures can cause your basement walls to crack or tilt, but this foundation repair system counteracts these pressures by keeping the basement walls in place. Over time, the system can be tightened to not only secure the walls in place, but to also straighten them.

Helping an In-Law Stay Dry

Dean was concerned for his mother-in-law when he noticed water in her basement. Not wanting to take any chances with his family's health, he contacted Ayers.

Our resident foreman Randy was able to listen to Dean's concerns and inspect the area. Upon his inspection, there was no clear source of water and concluded the system was being overworked. To solve this issue he had a WaterGUard system installed in the home.

WaterGuard is a system of draining channels that are connected to the home's sump pump. The channels are installed under the foundational floor and covered with poured concrete, making it invisible to the naked eye. The channels lead to an outlet pipe that takes the water far away from the home's foundation, depositing the water in a safe location.

Helping an Older Homeowner Stop Regular Flooding

Dean called on behalf of his Mother-in-Law. She is on the older side and the basement water intrusion is causing her a lot of stress. She has been fighting this for years. The family has tried several over-the-counter products and it's fixed about 90-95% of the issues, but still has a few gallons coming in during a rainy day. Wanting the water flow to stop once and for all, she contacted Ayers.

Our resident foreman Evan was able to inspect the area and diagnose the issues, finding that the home's pump system was sub-par. To fix the issues Evan and his team installed a TripleSafe pump to control the flow of water. Seeing where the home is placed relative to its terrain, Evan also fitted the home's basement with a WaterGuard system.

TIpleSafe is a trusted sump pump at Ayers due to its three levels of security. The first level is a powerful motor that has a high water capacity. The second level of security is a reserve motor that activates if the water surpasses a certain level on the initial motor. The third level of security is a backup battery that only activates if the home losses power.

Fixing a Flooded Basement in Battle Creek

Mr. Kent and his wife are close to perfect as neighbors and homeowners. Known well for their humor, they were referred to Ayers by a friend when they found a concerning amount of water in their basement. When on sight, our foreman Bruce noticed where the water was coming from and the damage it had done to the surrounding wall.

Bruce prescribed a WaterGuard system, CarbonArmor, and insulation as the best way to repair the home's affected areas. A WaterGuard system works with a Sump Pump to divert water, especially when the level of water is too much for a pump to handle. Carbon Armor strips are strategically placed along a cracked wall; the armor is adhesive and grips to the wall, creating a source of pressure that corrects the cracks of the wall. To ensure that no new problems are created, the supportive rim joist is covered in insulation and the crawl space is covered in an antimicrobial lining known as CleanSpace. These steps are taken to ensure no future water damage or mold spores affect the home's support.

Cracks and Moisture are an Easy Fix

Mr. and Mrs. Pillar were not pleased to find moisture and cracked concrete walls in their basement. The damage was so severe that our foreman Evan even found mold spores. A danger not just the structure of the home, rotting out the wood support, but mold is a danger to the health of all those living in the home. The damp air and cracks were all signs that water was penetrating and shifting the foundational soil.

The remedy our team offered was Helical Piers that lined the parameter of the home and a WaterGuard drainage system. The ground surrounding the home is excavated, exposing the weak soil. Hydraulic presses drive screw-shaped steel rods into the ground, deep beneath the offset soil. the rods are capped with concrete blocks, providing a surface for the house to rest on and secured into place. This work does not mean much if the water returns, so a WaterGuard system drains the water between the base concrete and the foundation of the home.

The walls cracks and mold had progressed too far for an antimicrobial lining so a complete restoration of the walls was required.

By the end, the owners could sleep well knowing their home's air is safe and its foundation sturdy.

Saving a Bowing Basement in a Battle Creek, MI Rental

Joel owns a rental property in Battle Creek but the basement wall was starting bow and crack. He called us to find a solution to support the wall. We installed GeoLock Channel Anchors to stabilize the wall. The system is made up of steel earth anchors and steel rods that are joined to the anchors through the wall and secured into place. The steel rods are extended through the hard packed soil beyond the home to make sure the home is supported. Not only does this system halt any further movement but it can return the wall to the original position. Not to worry though, we will restore your basement and landscaping to how it was before we started!

Power Braces Stabilize Bowing Walls in Battle Creek, MI

This home had very severe bowing walls that needed to get taken care of immediately. A weak foundation is not something to wait around and fix when you have time. The foundation literally holds up your entire home and everything in it. This basement here in Battle Creek had stair step cracks which is one of the first signs that your foundation has outside forces pushing on it. After discussing the options with the homeowner we all decided the best option for this home would be our PowerBrace System.

PowerBraces are designed to permanently stabilize your homes foundation. It fixes the issue once and for all and gives you peace of mind. It doesn't straighten the wall all at once, but works over time as the braces can be tightened up as the wall moves back to its original position. No heavy equipment is needed for install, the braces are zinc coated so they won't rust and most times take less than a day to install.

1980s Home with Standing Water in Battle Creek, MI

Karen S. from Battle Creek, Michigan owns a home that was built in the 1980s nearby wetlands. For these reasons, the home would experience leaks in the basement to the point of deep puddling on the basement floor. Karen needed a solution, and we had one.

We installed two of our patented waterproofing products for this job: the WaterGuard French drain system and the TripleSafe sump pump system. WaterGuard sits just below the basement floor and just above the foundation footing, gather water that seeps into the basement from the walls. Once this water is collected in the drain, it is redirected to the sump pump – the TripleSafe, in this case – to be pumped up and out of the house.

The TripleSafe sump pump is a sump pump that provides three levels of protection against water leakage. Whether it be normal water supply, heavy volumes of water, or in the case of a power outage, this sump pump will keep your basement dry. For normal water supply, the Zoeller â…“ horsepower pump functions. At a heavier level, the Zoeller ½ horsepower pump activates. In the case of a power outage, the UltraSump backup sump pump will pump water on a backup battery.

With these installments, Karen can once again we comfortable in her home.

WaterGuard System Improves Resale Value of Battle Creek, MI Home

We were contacted about this home in Battle Creek, because it was on the market and there was some water seepage coming in through the concrete floors. There was a couple cracks that a previous home owner had tried to cover up but it wasn't working. The owners stated that the seeping water has been a reoccuring problem when it rains.

We decided the best option would be to install our WaterGuard system. WaterGuard is a perimeter system that collects the water that seeps in through the floor and walls and directs it to the sump pump. The system is placed above the footing so no debris can get in.

Michigan Basement with Dirt Floors is saved by CleanSpace

John F. of Battle Creek, MI was dealing with the troubles of a crawl space – and a dirt crawl space, at that – before he reached out to us. The house was built in the early 1900s and it was starting to show. John gave us a call for a professional solution.

We installed our patented CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system for this job. CleanSpace is a 20mm thick plastic lining that does a great job of sealing out all the water, cold air and dirt that could potentially get into your crawl space. As an added bonus, CleanSpace is produced with an anti-microbial property that prevents the growth of smelly mold.

Say hello to paradise, John!

Battle Creek, MI Foundation Wall Stablized With Geo-Lock Wall Anchors

Neal V. contacted us because his foundation basement wall was cracking and showing signs of wall failure. In order to stabilize the wall and help shift it back to its proper position, we installed the Geo-Lock Wall Anchor system. We excavated a small section of soil outside of the foundation wall to embed steel earth anchors into stable soil that would be able to hold the wall in place. The earth anchor was then attached to the failing wall with a steel wall plate and secured in place with steel rods. The plates were then covered with anchor covers and a tightening kit was provided to help straighten the wall over time.

Smelly Battle Creek, MI Basement Totally Revamped

These homeowners had a bad smell in their basement when they moved in, presumably from the previous owner's pets. As moisture issues in the basement grew worse, so did the pet smells from the past. The basement needed the dry treatment if it was ever going to be an enjoyable space. We ended up doing a lot in this basement starting with a WaterGuard perimeter drainage system that captured water at the base of the outer walls and safely directed it to the new sump pump for removal. WaterGuard sits below the concrete floor along the home's footing so it goes virtually unnoticed. We also installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to help remove water vapors from the air and make the air safer and cleaner to breathe. We put down our CleanSpace vapor barrier in a small crawl space area and while we were at it, we added a new window for the homeowner with a window well and proper drainage. Finally, some downspout extensions help to keep water from seeping into the ground along the basement wall. These new changes should make a night and day difference in this Battle Creek basement and create a much better and more enjoyable air quality.

Bowing Wall in Battle Creek Michigan Stabilized With PowerBraces

This homeowner bought this Battle Creek, MI home on foreclosure for her son to live in and needed to get work done on the foundation before getting an occupancy permit. One of the walls nearest to the driveway was bowing with a horizontal crack and there were signs of water intrusion in the past.

In order stabilize the wall and get the home ready for this homeowner, we installed the PowerBrace system. This system used galvanized steel columns that were installed in the flooring at the base of the wall and then secured to the joists above the wall with steel brackets. To prevent further damage to the home, PowerBraces use a joist reinforcement method that distributes the weight across the basement ceiling to ensure the system does not interfere with the floors above. After we tightened the braces, the wall was held securely in place. The beams can even be tightened in the future to possibly shift the wall completely back.

The homeowner should have no problem getting the occupancy permit thanks to the effective PowerBrace system.

Separated Wall in Battle Creek, MI Saved With Wall Anchors

This Battle Creek home had a brick wall that was separated from the house that needed to be strengthened and secured. It was an eyesore to the homeowner and without a proper fix the problem would have worsened and the wall would continue to separate from the home.

Our team of experts installed the Geo-Lock wall anchor system to immediately stabilize the wall. We started this project by excavating the soil outside of the failing wall, making sure to remove enough to place a steel earth anchor into stable soil. A steel wall anchor was then installed on the foundation wall and connected to the earth anchor. The wall anchor was secured with steel brackets and then the system was tightened into place, which immediately held the wall in place. A wall tightening kit can be provided to tighten the system over time to potentially shift the wall back toward the home. After the installation was finished, we restored the landscaping outside for minimal disruption to the home.

CleanSpace and FrothPak Revive Old, Dirty Crawl Space in Battle Creek, MI

This home had two small crawl spaces located in a Michigan basement with dirt floor bases and poured concrete walls. The homeowner had just moved in and wanted to take care of the dirt and clean up the space.

In order to clean up the space and prevent moisture from entering, we installed the CleanSpace liner. Before the liner was laid out and secured to the walls, we had to cover the floor with drainage matting. The dimpled surface on the matting helps intruding water move easily underneath the liner and exit the space. The liner was then sized for the dimensions of the crawl space and laid out to cover both the walls and the floor. The liner is waterproof and vapor proof to keep moisture out that would create high humidity levels and various problems for the homeowner.

To insulate the walls and further prevent moisture from entering through the walls, we used FrothPak spray foam. This foam insulation was sprayed on the walls to seal the space off from the outside environment and is extremely effective because it doesn’t absorb ambient moisture and wont grow mold if it gets wet.

Eliminating Standing Water and Moisture in Battle Creek, MI Crawl Space

This home’s crawl space had poured concrete foundation with a dirt floor base. The homeowner found high moisture levels in the space and standing water after heavy rain or snow melt. The space did have a sump pump, although water was not being discarded effectively. Although there was no mold, mildew or wood rot found, without a proper fix the condition of the crawl space would continue worsen.

The first step in this project was to deal with the dirt ground and concrete foundation walls. The exposed earth and porous nature of the concrete walls allowed water and water vapor to easily occupy the space, which caused many of the moisture and water issues. During times of heavy rain or snow melt, water made its way in through small holes and cracks and water vapor from outside entered, creating high humidity levels. To seal the space off from the outside environment, we installed the CleanSpace liner. CleanSpace is both waterproof and vapor proof, which prevents any outside moisture from entering the space. We first cut the liner to fit the dimensions of the crawl space. Next we laid the liner out on the floor of the space and on the walls, where it was then securely fastened. CleanSpace vent covers were also installed to prevent outside water and moisture from going into the crawl space through the vents. The covers were secured to the vents, which immediately sealed the space off from outside.

A SmartSump sump pump was also installed because the previous sump pump proved to be inadequate. The SmartSump system is made specifically for wet crawl spaces and offers full protection for homeowners. The system includes a powerful Zoeller pump and an airtight lid to prevent water in the sump from evaporating back into the space.

An additional discharge line was installed to create a fast and efficient route for water to leave the home. To ensure water exits the discharge lines even if the pipes are frozen we installed IceGuard, which is a system we attached to the discharge line that has specialized holes to allow water to exit even if the pipes are frozen. This will prevent water from re-entering the home and causing even more problems. On the end of the discharge line we installed a LawnScape outlet that is placed underneath the ground and leads water away from the home to prevent the same problem from reoccurring.

Waterproofing Wet Basement Workshop in Battle Creek, MI

WaterGuard is used to waterproof a basement by installing a system that collects water leakage in the home, filters it into specialized pipes and then discards it into the sump pump to be discharged from the home. For this installation we first had to remove sections of the concrete slab around the perimeter of the basement. The WaterGuard pipes were then placed on top of the footing and slightly away from the wall. We then placed crushed stone in the remaining space and we restored the floors by filling the void with concrete. A small section of the system closest to the wall was left uncovered to give incoming water space to filter into the system. An inspection port was also installed in this system to give us and the homeowner easy access to the system if needed in the future.

The WaterGuard system needed a proper exit location for the collected water so we installed the TripleSafe sump pump system. We first installed an effective liner that accepts water from the ground and through the WaterGuard system. Three effective pumps were then placed in the liner to ensure the home is fully protected. The first pump does the bulk of the work and the second pump is located higher in the liner that will turn on if the first pump cannot keep up with the amount of water coming in. The final pump is battery-powered to ensure water will still pump out of the home even if the power goes out.

An escape route for the water is the final step. We first installed the IceGuard system on the home’s discharge line where the line meets the home. This system has specialized holes that help water exit the home even if the pipes are frozen. This is beneficial because it prevents water from re-entering the home and causing a flood. The LawnScape outlet was installed underneath the ground outside of the home. It is used to lead water away from the home so that it can exit without going back toward the property.

Saving Basement Walls in Battle Creek, MI

Wanda had called us a few years back looking for a solution for her bowing basement walls. After some back and forth between, Wanda decided to wait a while longer and see if the walls worsened.  When it became clear that the condition of the walls was only going to get worse, she decided that something had to be done.

Our crew took another trip out to Battle Creek, Mi, this time with a goal to complete the job. Their first objective was removing the mold that had taken over the walls. Once the mold was handled, the crew installed BrightWall panels over the old walls. BrightWall panels are made of inorganic plastic, so mold won’t trouble Wanda again. The plan to save the bowing walls created by our system design specialist called for two different products: PowerBrace system and Geo-Lock Wall Anchors. Wall anchors are a more invasive solution that requires removing the soil outside of the basement, but since they were only to be installed on one wall and offered a permanent solution, the procedure was well worth it. The team had to remove the soil to give the earth anchors somewhere to attach to. 2 holes was then drilled into the wall and 2 wall plates so a steel galvanized rods could pass through and connect to the anchor.  Wall covers aren’t exactly decorative, so the team covered them with Hide-A-Way covers. The other walls were saved by 9 different PowerBrace beams. The beams were installed against the new bright wall panels and reach from floor to ceiling. While the Geo anchors pull one wall back to its original position, PowerBrace will push the others straight with its adjustable tightness feature.

Wanda was so happy with the crew’s work that she called them back out for a quick PolyLevel job!

Sealing Leaks in a Battle Creek, MI Basement with FrothPak Insulation

Crystal grew up in this Battle Creek, MI home and had recently settled back there to raise her family. She knew the basement had struggled with leaks and water issues in the past, but she wasn’t sure what condition it was in now. The basement presented a unique challenge. The walls were made entirely of cobblestone. When water erodes cobblestone, it results in cracks usually towards the top of the basement near the rim joists, like what Crystal was seeing in her home. With no intention of suffering through more of the same, Crystal gave us a call looking for a permanent solution.

The crew knew the answer to Crystal’s problems would be located near the joists. First up was removing the old, and now wet, wall insulation. Wet or dry, insulation is essential to basement protection. So, after removing the damaged insulation, the crew replaced it with FrothPak, a waterproof foam insulation that can be sprayed just about anywhere. The foam would not only fill in where the previous insulation was, but also create a seal to prevent water from leaking back in. With the leaks a thing of the past, the team looked towards making the future conditions of the basement as comfortable as possible. Our SaniDry XP dehumidifier was just the product for that. The dehumidifier will keep the basement at a cool temperature and with the condensate pump add in, the system will stay well maintained for years to come.

Best of luck to you and your family in the “new” home, Crystal!
