A customer in Saint Johns called in about a failing wall in the basement. At Ayers Basement Systems, we specialize in repairing or preventing walls from bowing in. Once our System Design Specialist took a look at the wall, it was save to assume it needed wall anchors.
Our wall anchors are designed to repair walls like these. The galvanized steel makes for a long-lasting solution that will prevent any further inward movement of the walls.
Note: The ground outside was filled in with dirt after the anchors were secured.
Years ago, a vehicle had run into the front of this St Johns business. Over time the brick support column in the front of the establishment began to crumble and crack. It was no longer safe and needed to be replaced. Our fantastic team reinforced the main floor with a steel support beam and some adjustable steel Smart Jacks in the basement. They then built some temporary supports around the brick column before dismantling it and building a new column back up in its place. It was not a simple job but our skilled team expertly did the work and ensured that the building was properly supported all along the way and for years to come. Our Smart Jacks in the basement will also continue to support the floor above with incredible strength for many years to come. Our Smart Jacks are a meant to be a permanent solution.
Looking for ways to cut your electricity bill? If your basement walls are surrounded by those tiny, virtually useless windows consider having them replaced with egress windows. Their large frame provide over 50% more sunlight than the original windows, allowing you to cut back on the electricity used to light the area. Other benefits include access to fresh air, emergency exit capabilities, and an increase in home value.
Kathy had a crawl space with a dirt floor. She was hoping to make the space look neater, cleaner, and warmer. We were able to add TerraBlock insulation on the ground and SilverGlo insulation on the block walls to help reflect heat back into the home and our CleanSpace material provides a long-lasting and durable mositure barrier that is resistant to mold and mildew. Spray foam in the rim joists helps to seal any other cracks that may exist to keep unwanted cold air and moisture out. This crawl space is much brighter and more inviting now and the floors above should be noticeably warmer.
Charles called us about his basement wall. Large horizontal cracks could be seen running from one end of the wall to another, a sure sign of a wall that was beginning to bow. If left alone, Charles' yard would eventually be relocated in his basement. Fortunately, we had a permanent fix for Charles. The answer was in a GeoLock Wall Anchor System. Large steel GeoLock earth anchors are placed in the ground away from the home and are connected to wall anchor plates on the inside along the bowing wall using long steel rods. These anchors hold the wall in place and keep it from bowing any further. Another unique feature of these wall anchors is that they have a tightening system included that allows the walls condition to improve over time. Charles will no longer have to worry about a basement full of dirt. A quick easy installation was the difference between between worry and confidence.
