John had one wall with huge cracks running the length of the wall and another wall that was bowing inwards. He was worried about the foundation problems in his basement so he called our team. We installed SmartJack, a system that uses steel columns, threaded rods and a solid base to address stabilization issues. Rooms above crawl spaces are vulnerable due to the moisture and soils in crawl spaces. However, SmartJack is placed inside the crawl space to secure the rooms above. Installing this system usually takes less than a day and it provides immediate stabilization.
The insulation in Brenda's crawl space was falling due to water intrusion. A poorly insulated crawl space can cause many problems, but mostly it increases your heating and cooling bills. In order to insulate her crawl space, our team insulated her rim joists. Small cracks and seams can exist around rim joists, but after insulating them all of those cracks are sealed off. Now airflow is restricted keeping outside air out and inside air in. Brenda will no longer have to worry about her crawl space being poorly insulated.
Jeff called up Ayers for a crawl space renovation. After inspection, our Ayers System Design Specialist decided CleanSpace would do the trick. They even decided to install our Drainage Matting to ensure it stays dry.
CleanSpace utilizes a durable, thick plastic liner that runs along the crawl space. It contains a vapor barrier, protecting it from excess moisture that can lead to bacteria or mold growth. Our Drainage Matting is lined underneath the CleanSpace plastic liner. This dimpled mat allows water to pass underneath making sure it reaches the drain.
This new system in Jeff's crawl space will ensure it stays dry and clean for decades!
Dirt crawl spaces with a musty smell are a pretty common problem we tackle here at Ayers. So, what makes the crawl space so damn and unpleasant? Moisture from the ground. Soil naturally contains some water, but as the soil dries up in the crawl space, it releases that moisture in the form of water vapor. Along with groundwater leakage, the water in the crawl space contributes to humidity, which is where mold grows. These mold spores are carried through the air, and since we all know air rises, it’s carried upstairs.
The best way to eliminate water vapor in your crawl space is to encapsulate it. CleanSpace, and thick, antimicrobial crawl space liner seals off the space from the earth. Its bright white color also helps the space feel brighter. CleanSpace not only provides a vapor barrier, but also transforms the crawl space into a healthy, usable area.
This homeowner contacted us because he wanted to get his crawl space insulated. There was no water issues but he wanted to take preventative measures. Since there weren't any water issues the next step in our process is to deal with the inevitable water vapor and bugs that come in through the exposed earth. We take care of this by encapsulating the entire crawl space with CleanSpace. You can see in the picture there is a plastic liner on the floor but it's not doing much good. It's very thin so it can easily rip and allow water to continue to get it. Our CleanSpace is a very thick liner that sealed around the entire crawl space and made with UltraFresh which is an antimicrobial agent that prevent mold growth. The crawl space is now healthy and usable. It's much brighter and can easily have stuff stored on it.
