The open hole sump is pretty common in basements. The only problem - besides a passageway to the depths of the black lagoon in your house - is the hole leaves your system vulnerable. Vulnerable to flooding, clogging, and general basement destruction. These problems are only amplified when your home is dealing with iron ochre issues, a rust-colored sludge that builds up inside of your pipes, as this Omer, MI homeowner could attest.
Iron ochre was coming through the pipes of his open hole sump and clogging up the entire discharge system. All Ayers crew members are familiar with iron ochre and know which type of products will be effective in the fight against sludge. First, the team went ahead and installed a WaterGuard IOS perimeter drainage system. This WaterGuard system was designed with large drainage holes to prevent clogging. Our TripleSafe (as seen in the after photo) sump pump’s reliability also makes it extremely effective against iron ochre. The two backup pumps included in the system make sure that the sump is continuously working, even if the main pump becomes overwhelmed or shutdowns from power failure. Extra pumps equal extra discharge and to actually get that water out, the system needed an additional discharge line. Lastly, an airtight lid was placed on top of the triple safe sump liner. It may seem simple, but it does a lot to ensure the proficiency of the system. This way, debris can’t fall in to mess up the system, not to mention the lid almost looks like art compared to an open hole sump.
If you have questions about iron ochre or the best products to use against it, give us a call, and we'll send a specialist your way.
Billy has owned his Lake, MI home for 22 years since it was built in 2000. He’s had been having water intrusion issues for a few years, but keep cleaning it up himself. Billy is unable to use the space anymore and he’s lost personal property due to the water. Recently, he recently noticed a bowing wall and finally decided to call Ayers. Our crew came out for an inspection and determined that with Billy’s needs, PowerBraces would be the perfect solution to curb the water intrusion and reinforce the foundation.
PowerBraces are steel supports that secure to the joists above the foundation. They even distribute the weight of the home, strengthening the foundation overtime. Now that his foundation is stabilized properly, there’ll be less water intrusion as well as a more safe and secure foundation. Billy was thrilled with the work done by Ayers as he wants to be able to pass the home down to his daughter. He will definitely be calling us int he future if any other problems arise!
Dan called Ayers hoping for waterproofing systems to keep his old basement dry. This area was in rough shape, so our crew inspected the home to make the best recommendations. Our system design specialists suggested our WaterGaurd and TripleSafe sump pump systems. WaterGuard is an interior drainage system that runs along the perimeter of the basement. It collects water in the drain and directs the leaking water to the sump pump system. TripleSafe is a three-pump system that eradicates these pesky leaks outside the home. The third pump is even battery-operated to guarantee the system runs during outages. Dan is grateful for the professional solutions that keep his basement dry!
Water was coming into Justin and Kimberly’s home through their basement floor. Water continued to seep in no matter what they tried, so they called our team. We installed ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring in their home. Made completely from inorganic material, this flooring is not vulnerable to mold or water damage. In addition, this flooring works perfectly with our waterproofing systems. Lastly, it will allow Justin and Kimberly to have nice wood flooring in their basement without having to worry about it being ruined by water damage.
John had huge cracks running the length of one wall and another wall that was bowing inwards. He was worried about the foundation problems in his basement, so he called our team. We installed the GeoLock Anchor system that permanently stabilizes walls. In most cases, it can eventually straighten the wall back to its original position. The system is installed by putting heavy anchors in stable soil away from your foundation wall. This system is ideal because it involves minimal disturbance to your lawn and home.
