Often times crawl spaces can be very damp, musty, or even flooded. While this crawl space was slightly damp, there were really no major repairs that had to be made. However, the owners of the home still wanted to encapsulate it to prevent any future problems and transform their crawl space into a more usable space. Installing a CleanSpace liner in the crawl space of this home not only provides barrier from any water vapor from the ground or walls, but also enhances the look of the space. The liner is bright white, and since its so durable, fixing it to the walls ensures it will stay exactly where it was installed. Its multiple layers makes it flexible and tear resistant, so it can be walked on, making the area clean and usable.
Doris has lived in her home for nearly 20 years and has never stepped foot in her crawl space, likely because animals had made their way in there several times—yikes! Our system design specialist visited her home to check out the crawl space’s current situation. What he found was standing water—up to 4 inches in some parts. The best solution to keep water out of the crawl space and seal off the home from critters was CleanSpace.
CleanSpace is a specially designed crawl space liner that will hold up for a very long time. Fixed to the wall with fasteners, this incredibly thick liner is virtually resistant to tears. It provides a barrier to moisture, and allows for drainage to the sump pump. Encapsulating her crawl space with CleanSpace, assures Doris that standing water and animals are a thing of the past.
Don and Cathy G. called because they noticed a musty smell on the first floor of their home. This generally occurred when they would turn the heat on. Our team investigated their crawl space situation and found that it was extremely damp and moldy. Due to the “Stack Effect”, the musty air from the crawl space was drawn upward into the main level of their home. Little did they know the disgusting smell in the air was also carrying mold spores that can cause serious health problems.
The couple had mold abatement done in the past but this was not a permanent fix. Dirt crawl spaces cause many problems for homeowners because the earth is damp and creates the ideal environment for mold to grow and spread. The solution for this common problem is the installation of CleanSpace, which is a durable plastic liner that seals off the crawlspace from the earth. The liner is waterproof and will prevent any source of water from entering the space. This will keep the crawl space dry and prevent mold growth.
Don and Cathy can now live comfortably knowing they wont have to deal with a damp and smelly crawl space.
Pam called us when she noticed insulation hanging down in her 20 year old crawl space. It looked like a mess and the insulation obviously wasn't working efficiently. She wondered if we could clean the space up and also seal it up better against mice and critters. That was definitely a thing we could do. We do it all the time for people. First, there were some moisture issues that were beginning to develop. We could deal with these moisture issues while also creating a barrier between the crawl space ground and walls and the rest of the home. We used our durable CleanSpace encapsulation system to provide this barrier and effectively keep the space dry and clean. The CleanSpace material also brightens up the space and makes it much less intimidating. To replace the insulation, we lined the walls with SilverGlo foam insulation which helps reflects heat back up and into the home creating noticably warmer floors in the winter. Finally, we put spray foam in the rim joists which is a common place for gaps and cracks, an entry point for critters and for harmful water vapors. Now the crawl space is warmer, dryer, and has greater protection from those critters that Pam had been concerned about before.
The owner of this home contacted us because there was a horizontal and vertical crack in the cement block foundation wall. The wall was also starting to bow in. There was no water coming in and the crack was only visible from the inside not the outside. A stair step crack is the first sign that a wall is bowing inward and that means water can get inside. These cracks are caused when the soil outside the foundation expands and puts too much pressure on the wall.
To fix these cracks our team of experts installed Carbon Armor. Carbon fiber is a very high tensile strength material that is impossible to stretch. The straps are glued to the wall and it keeps them from bending or bowing more than they already have. Carbon fiber is a great option if the wall is bowing in at the middle not the top or bottom. It also works great if you don't have space on the outside of your home since it's all done inside.
