Sump pumps are designed to get water out of your basement and away from your house, but this can be an issue in the winter. The pipe can become blocked with snow and ice. Now if your pump runs, it won't be able to get anything out and your basement will flood. With IceGuard, it's designed on the outside of the house and automatically removes any water from the outside wall in case the pipe freezes. There are holes in the device that allow for the water to be ejected, but it is designed so water will not get out if the pipe is not frozen.
