Encapsulating Your Crawl Space Creates Storage

Encapsulating Your Crawl Space Creates Storage - Image 1

Our homes are bursting at the seams with tchotchkes, knickknacks or just plain stuff. Stuff we hold onto, stuff we have outgrown, stuff we think we may need like those 100 copies of National Geographic. Over time it will become challenging to compactly store everything. Today I want you to consider that under your home is a potential mecca of storage space in the form of your crawl space. Now I am not referring to your damp, wet and mold-ridden crawl space. For you to even consider storing anything down there it needs to be cleaned and encapsulated.

Say what?

encapsulate \in-KAP-suh-layt\ verb: to enclose in or as if in a capsule

When I look for a great spot to store items at home, I look for a spot that is waterproof, air-controlled and spacious. This is not exactly your average crawl space. Ambient air found in crawl spaces contains moisture that will damage anything organic—that means family heirlooms, prized photos and especially books and paper-based arts and crafts. Waterproofing your crawl space opens a range of possibilities for storage using our CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System, something unthinkable with your current dirt crawl space. CleanSpace is a 20-mil thick plastic liner that is fitted into your crawl space and completely seals it off from the earth. The system even allows for a plumbing leak in that space by allowing water to drain from the surface of the liner into a sealed sump pump.

This is why CleanSpace is so revolutionary. It not only fixes your crawlspace water intrusion issues, but transforms it into a healthy, usable space. Even better, the liner is bright white and really makes a massive difference in brightening up your crawl space dungeon.

Oh wait, there’s more.

The liner has an antimicrobial additive which prevents mold growth on the liner. This is essential if you’re to move items downstairs for storage. Can you believe that after installation the humidity levels in your crawl space are comparable to the space upstairs?

Even though our system does a thorough job of sealing out the outside air, it is possible that you may see condensation on a hot day. This is why we pair our CleanSpace system with a high-capacity, high-efficiency dehumidification system that filters the air. Our SaniDry Crawl Space Air System wrings your air dry and really makes all the difference in your crawl space—like sprinkles on top of your ice cream sundae. Dry air moving between your valuables leaves no room for mold growth or moisture deterioration.

Take a look at this photo of a crawl space before and after CleanSpace installation. I think we both know in which space we’d rather store our kids’ baby clothes.
