Protecting Your Basement From Mother Nature: The Water Table Edition

As we make our way through April and prepare for the constant rain showers we have to begin thinking about the water table under your home and how it affects your basement. Now a water table is not something we all know about, but simply put the water table is the standing water level in the ground below your home. It isn’t something you can actually see but with enough rain you will definitely experience its effects.

Have you ever noticed how after a few days of rain you have a puddle of water in the middle of the yard? That’s a sign of your water table rising. When the water table is high the ground below it is completely saturated with water and does not have enough time to drain through the ground.

There are some areas that have a high water table and tend to flood faster. This is usually the case for people living near lakes or other bodies of water. Think about it this way, if you have a high water table and we get a ton of rain that water has nowhere to go.With nowhere to go, the water begins looking for a low pressure area to enter and that usually ends us being your basement. We often notice it as puddles that have magically appeared in the middle of your floors.  Now we can’t control mother nature, but we can control your home.

Ayers Basement Systems has a variety of products to waterproof and protect your basement. We offer our WaterGuard System that is installed around the perimeter of your basement to ensure any water that may enter your basement is guided to our sump pump. We have a range of sump pumps for different water situations, but if you live in a high water table area and experience large amounts of water entering your basement we recommend our TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is made with three pumps in one sump liner. The first pump is engineered to handle average amounts of water that may enter your basement and the second kicks on in the event the amount of water entering is too much handle for the first pump. The final pump is battery powered and cuts on in the event of a power outage. This safeguards your home against any situations that may occur.

While protecting your home from the inside against flooding, we also have products that protect the outside of your home. We install Lawnscape Outlet so that the water being pumped out the basement is able to escape, away from the home, with virtually no pitch. It is installed below ground to avoid tripping hazards and maintain your lawn’s nice clean look. As the weather changes and winter rolls around, we can expect those discharge lines to freeze. Let’s face it, it’s inevitable, but when they do IceGuard has you covered. IceGuard acts by ejecting that water, that would normally have nowhere to go, away from your home. This keeps it from flowing back into your basement. The combination of these products makes sure we protect your home from  mother nature.
