Our friends in Cadillac called us with concerns with their current crawlspace. As the home is located near a high water table, humidity is high so the chance of water entering through the crawlspace increases. At Ayers Basement Systems, we recommend upgrading existing crawlspaces with two products: CleanSpace and SilverGlo. CleanSpace is a white vapor barrier that protects the house from invasive humidity and temperatures from the ground. SilverGlo (not pictured) goes on the wall to further insulate the crawlspace. With the addition of a sump pump, these upgrades will help to save money, reduce cold temperatures, and eliminate any organisms growing under our houses such as mold or dust mites.
Brian's feet had been cold since the temperature dropped in the fall. He couldn't stand the feeling, so he researched his options and called Ayers for help. Our experts stopped by his home to evaluate and recommended installing the CleanSpace vapor barrier. The vents in Brian's crawl space allowed cold air to enter his home. CleanSpace encapsulates the crawl space walls and floors and is antimicrobial-lined to eliminate moisture entry and mold growth. Brian's floor is cold no more!
One look at the before picture of this crawl space, and you likely wouldn’t want to step foot in it. It’s cold, dark, and even worse—damp. The after picture shows the dramatic transformation of the space after the addition of SilverGlo insulation and a CleanSpace crawl space liner. SilverGlo comes in panels, and is manufactured with graphite particles, which makes it shiny. This isn’t just for looks, though; these particles resist heat conduction and reflect heat back into the crawl space.
CleanSpace, unlike other crawl space liners, is extremely thick and durable. Installed on the floor and even the walls of the crawl space seals of the home from the earth, keeping moisture out. Eliminating moisture in the crawl space not only keeps it dry, but prevents mold from growing, and keeps the air clean.
This dramatic transformation not only visibly brightens the space, but provides a barrier to moisture and mold, and keeps the space warm and energy efficient.
The moisture on the floor of the before photo had come through the cracks in the foundation walls. It was a newly purchased cottage on a lake, so water naturally ended up flowing towards the crawl space. To block it out, the crew installed the vapor barrier in the after photo. The CleanSpace vapor barrier is impenetrable by moisture, and since it can cover both the floor and walls, there’s nowhere for water to enter the crawl space. In fact, even the piers were wrapped with the barrier. CleanSpace is also inorganic meaning that water won't have any negative effects, like mold, on it. No matter how much water comes near this cottage crawl space, it won't have any more problems.
Homeowner Kathy was worried about the water intrusion in the crawl space of her home in Greenville, MI. The discharge from her sump pump was too short, causing water to back up into her home when the pump was in operation. To address these concerns, Kathy decided to work with Ayers to ensure her crawl space was protected for the long term. They installed CleanSpace, a vapor barrier that effectively encapsulates the crawl space, keeping moisture and water out. This system also directs any excess water to a newly extended sump pump discharge line, preventing water from cycling back into her home. Now, Kathy can rest easy knowing her crawl space is secure.
