Water Took Over Their Finished Basement. Here's How This Paw Paw Family Got It Back
After repeated water intrusion forced Molly's son out of their finished basement, the family was ready for a permanent solution. See how basement waterproofing helped them prepare to reclaim their space.
When Basement Water Starts Taking Away Your Space
Ripping up finished flooring. Cutting out damaged drywall. Finding mold from water intrusion. It's something no homeowner wants to deal with in a finished basement. For Molly and her family in Paw Paw, Michigan, that became their reality this year.
They had dealt with occasional basement water since 2023, but the problem had gotten worse. Stored belongings had to be moved away from wet areas, and their son, who had been living downstairs, had to move back upstairs.
After seven years in their home, Molly and her husband were ready to get their basement back. But before they could refinish the space and move their son downstairs again, they wanted to make sure the water problem was addressed with a solution they could feel confident in.
How Do You Choose the Right Basement Waterproofing Solution?
Molly and her family took their time comparing several estimates for their basement. After meeting with System Design Specialist Caity and reviewing the recommended waterproofing plan, they felt confident moving forward with Ayers. Caity’s inspection also identified an electrical panel upgrade that would be needed for the project, something Molly appreciated having brought to her attention early in the process.
How We Waterproofed This Paw Paw Basement
Foreman Braiden and crew members Brandon and Hayden installed WaterGuard® along the basement perimeter. WaterGuard is an interior drainage system designed to capture water entering around the foundation and direct it to the sump system.
The crew carefully removed concrete around the perimeter, installed WaterGuard, and restored the concrete over the system.
The drainage system leads to two TripleSafe™ sump pump systems, providing the pumping capacity and backup protection designed for this basement.
Getting Water Away From the Foundation
The waterproofing system doesn't stop at the basement walls. Outside, the crew excavated a trench for the buried discharge line, which carries water from the sump pumps away from the home. The system also includes IceGuard®, which provides an additional path for water if the exterior discharge line freezes or becomes blocked.
Once installation was complete, the crew restored the excavated area of the yard.
Ready to Make the Basement Home Again
With the waterproofing system installed, Molly and her family can finally turn their attention back to refinishing their basement, without the constant worry of water undoing their hard work.
After the project was complete, Molly shared her experience in a five-star Google review:
"I don’t think there are words to describe how happy we are with our decision to have Ayers fix our basement. Caity was informative and very helpful through the sales process. The crew…Braydon and the guys…you busted butt! The basement never looked like a construction zone, it was cleaned nightly, quite amazing actually with all the work that had to be done. You kept us informed of the progress and answered all our questions. Thank you Ayers for a great experience and service!"
From Caity's initial inspection to the installation completed by Braiden, Brandon, and Hayden, this project was about more than installing drainage and sump pumps. It was about giving Molly and her family a permanent waterproofing solution they could feel confident in before rebuilding their finished basement.
