For me, summer officially begins the moment I unlock the cabin door Up North. Growing up, that first trip always came with a familiar musty smell and bouncy floors. I thought it was just part of owning an older cabin. It wasn't until years later that I learned those were common signs of a damp crawl space. The good news? Situated on the shoreline of Walled Lake, we inspected a cabin built in 1948 that had been expanded several times over the years. Like many older Michigan cabins, each addition created new challenges for controlling moisture in their crawl space.
