Victoria’s home was built in 1940 and the basement has been a problem since she purchased it in 2006. Plagued with invading water and a faulty sump pump, hopes of making the basement into a livable space were put on hold until it could be repaired.
Before Victoria could finish her basement, it needed to be waterproofed and insulated. 209 feet of WaterGuard were used around the perimeter of the floor. The WaterGuard French drain system sits on top of the basement’s footing to prevent clogging but also rests below the floor line to allow the clean look Victoria wanted.
Following the installation of WaterGuard, the crew sprayed 2" of medium density foam onto the concrete ceilings around the perimeter of the basement to seal any air leaks. Insulating around the basement rim joists improves energy efficiency for both the basement and the main floor areas.
Victoria’s upgrade to the TripleSafe sump pump provided enough power to pump out the extra water collected in the WaterGuard drainage system. The TripleSafe uses three pumps that automatically activate depending on the amount of water collected. Even if the power goes out, the included UltraSump battery backup will keep the system running.
Once the invading water was pumped out and the basement was completely dry, Basement to Beautiful wall panels were installed to give the basement a finished look and provide a final barrier against the outdoor elements. The 2 ½" thick insulated wall panels provide R-13 insulation and are resistant to mold growth, making them the perfect solution to Victoria’s basement needs.
