How to Save Settling Slabs: PolyLEVEL or Piering?

How to Save Settling Slabs PolyLEVEL or Piering - Image 1

Now that the snow has melted, all of those dicey, uneven sidewalks in your neighborhood and your lopsided porch are visible again, and you might - just momentarily - wish for the snow back. But please don't do that.

Concrete slabs are found everywhere from sidewalks and driveways to the very foundation of your home, and they are susceptible to sinking when the soil beneath them erodes. With a sudden lack of support, the slab can tilt, sink, or crack, wreaking havoc on whatever lies above. This might mean an uneven sidewalk or even a bowing basement wall, and there are ways to fix both.

PolyLEVEL

Our PolyLEVEL system can be used to raise sinking concrete slabs - like driveways and sidewalks - by injecting a foam polymer beneath the slab to replace the eroded soil. Since PolyLEVEL isn't susceptible to erosion, it's a more reliable solution than filling the gap with more soil. It's also a quick process, with the repaired slabs often able to bear weight within an hour (sometimes as little as 15 minutes).

Piering

Sometimes it's more complicated than injecting some foam. In the case of a foundation slab sinking, we need to use a process called piering, which involves screwing metal piers into the ground and using them to support the foundation, taking the pressure off the unreliable earth. Piering is used when there's "something on top of" the sinking slab, like a house or a porch, because other precautions must be taken to stabilize the structure when raising the slab.

But whether your home's problem requires PolyLEVEL or piering, we have dedicated System Design Specialists and Project Managers on hand to solve the problem. Call us at 1-866-379-1669 and let us figure out a solution for you!
