Before After
Energy Saving Changes Rid Westphalia, MI Crawl Space of Bad Smell Energy Saving Changes Rid Westphalia, MI Crawl Space of Bad Smell

When these Westphalia, MI residents started noticing a strange odor in their kitchen, they set about to locating the source. They found the answer in their crawl space and weren’t too happy with the discovery. They had already known that the crawl space was dealing with previous issues. Specifically, no matter what the temperature of the house was, the crawl space remained cold. The bad odor gave them another reason to finally address the issue. On arrival, one of our system design specialists confirmed their suspicions. The crawl space was letting in damp air causing adverse temperatures and that delightful moldy smell that was traveling through their home. Luckily, both of these problems would disappear with a crawl space encapsulation.

Our Ultimate Energy Saver package was the perfect thing to cure this crawl space’s smell and temperature problem. Included in the package, are several different types of insulation: The SilverGlo wall insulation and spray foam are both seen in the after photo, and a Terrablock foam insulation rests on the floor underneath the vapor barrier. With these products working together, the crawlspace temperature should no longer be an issue. All of these items have another role in the project, as well. That is their ability to stop outside air - the main culprit for humidity, mold and bad odors - from coming in.  As a package, the Ultimate Energy Saver will protect these homeowners from moldy smells and overspending on heating costs.

Job Stories From Westphalia, MI
WaterGuard Replaces Non-Functional French Drain

Damian S. of Westphalia, MI had a French drain installed in his home two years ago and it has stopped working. The French drain is meant to collect water and keep it out of the basement, and his, from another company, has failed to do its job. This said, Damian gave us a call to get a long-term fix.

We installed our patented WaterGuard French drain system to end Damian's water problem once and for all. WaterGuard rests below the basement floor and above the foundation footing, collecting water that seeps into the basement from the walls. After this water is collected it is redirected to the sump pump to be pumped up and out of the home. The WaterGuard is positioned at the perfect height to collect water and keep it out of the basement so as to make sure you never even see it.

Stinky Crawl Space Saved by CleanSpace in Westphalia, MI

Michelle F. of Westphalia, MI terrible odors coming from her crawl space before she reached out to us. These odors were drifting up into her house -- especially into her kitchen -- and creating a horribly unpleasant environment. These odors were most likely caused by heavy water and moisture in the crawl space that lead to mold growth.

Our solution? The CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system. Michelle needed a product that would prevent water from getting into her crawl space, and this was it. CleanSpace is a 20mm thick plastic lining that completely seals off crawl spaces from the surrounding elements. No dirt, water, cold air, or moisture will be able to get through this material. And as an added bonus, CleanSpace is developed with anti-microbial components that ward off mold growth.

Michelle, CleanSpace will keep your crawl space dry and odor-free.

WaterGuard and SaniDry XP Installation in Westphalia, MI

Thomas B. of Westphalia, MI had water coming into his basement and his sump pump could not take care of the issue. Water in a basement can cause great problems such as mold growth, sticking doors and windows and asthma. Because of this, Thomas gave us a call.

We installed two of our patented products: the WaterGuard French drain system and the SaniDry XP standing dehumidifier. We began by installing the WaterGuard. The WaterGuard drain rests below the basement floor and above the foundation footing collecting water that seeps into the basement from the walls. Once this water is collected it is redistributed to the sump pump to be pumped up and out of the home.

After that, we moved onto the SaniDry XP. This dehumidifier can collect up to 109 liters of water per day and is compact enough to be placed in a closet or corner of a room and not take up a large amount of space. The SaniDry XP will remove any lingering water vapor and keep the air free of moisture to attain the greatest level of comfort in your home.

Upgrading a Westphalia, MI Waterproof System

When Damian purchased his Westphalia, MI home, the previous owner told him that a French drain system had been installed in the basement not long before. Damian and his family were glad to hear that they didn’t have to worry about waterproofing and for two years that belief held up. Then one day in May, he went downstairs to find that the basement was soaked from rain the previous day. The system had worked well up to this point, so Damian did his best to repair it by snaking the drain to look for clogs. Unfortunately, it didn’t pay off. Only adding to the list of troubles, was the exterior discharge drain that was leaving water too close to the home. Not wanting the problems to persist, Damian called us for a solution.

The crew replaced the existing French drain with WaterGuard. Much like the previous system, WaterGuard covers the perimeter of the basement to collect water that leaks in. But as an improvement, the crew also installed 6 different inspection ports to make checking for plugging easier on Damian. To pump the water out in a more effective way, the crew also replaced the sump pump with a 1/3 horsepower Zoeller pump. After adding a trench drain in front of the steps that led to the basement, the crew connected it, the WaterGuard drainage system, and the new sump pump to a discharge line to lead the water to a safe distance from the house. Thanks to the quick action taken by Damian, his home was saved from what could have been a lengthy and expensive post-flood fix; and this time around, his waterproofing system comes with the Ayers stamp of approval.
