Ayers Basement Systems Celebrates 33 Years in Business!
Ayers Basement Systems has been helping Michigan homeowners since April of 1981. During that time, the company has fixed nearly 30,000 basements, crawl spaces and foundations.
Founder Virgil Ayers started out in a small, dilapidated garage (see photo) with one customer and a $50 truck that needed a new engine. His first job went well, and he used the profit to buy materials for the next one. After a few projects, he began to get referrals.
Based on his experience working for a concrete forms manufacturer, Virgil decided to specialize in concrete restoration and waterproofing. He hired a few employees, and the business expanded to serve much of the state of Michigan. In 2006, Basement Systems approached Virgil to join their elite network of more than 300 waterproofing contractors.
Ayers continued to grow and soon became one of Basement Systems’ top 10 dealers. Ayers benefits from the experience and expertise of the other dealers in the group, and they all work together to continually improve. As a result, Basement Systems holds more than 25 patents and employs a full-time research team that focuses on finding even better solutions for our customers.
Today, Ayers Basement Systems and its sister company Dr. Energy Saver employ approximately 80 people. Nine installation crews and a dedicated service staff work year-round in homes throughout most of the Lower Peninsula. And that one $50 truck has turned into an entire fleet. (See photo.)
The back of Virgil Ayers’ original business card said. “To my customer: I may not have the answer, but I’ll find it. I may not have the time, but I’ll make it. I may not be the biggest, but I’ll be the most committed to your success."
Virgil’s promise still rings true in Ayers’ mission statement to “Just Do The Right Thing” for our customers. Everyone who joins the Ayers team takes pride in representing a company that was founded on hard work and integrity and that continues to be focused on helping Michigan homeowners.
